Open records request, Cobb County Sheriff’s office – Santos Rosalio Vicente-Ramos

The below open records request was sent via email today at 10:45 AM. A response came soon after that I need too use the online public records center. See bottom for response from Cobb Co. Sheriff on my second attempt.

Cobb Sheriff’s office, please send me copies of any and all intake/booking documents and records relative to the incarceration of – Santos Rosalio Vicente-Ramos who was arrested June 23, 2022 according to media reports. Please include all records that indicate compliance with OCGA 42-4-14.

Driver charged with vehicular homicide, DUI for accident that killed two passengers on SR 316

This accident on State Route 316 resulted in the deaths of two passengers and the arrest of the driver on multiple charges, including two counts of homicide by vehicle in the 1st degree, on Sunday.

The driver of a car that crashed on State Route 316 near Lawrenceville early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of two passengers, is facing vehicular homicide charges.

Christian Velasquez, 23, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu east on the highway when it ran off the road and hit an overhead sign post and a guardrail near Sugarloaf Parkway just before 6 a.m., Gwinnett police Cpl. Collin Flynn said.

The vehicle rolled after it hit the post and guardrail, causing two passengers to die at the scene.

“Investigators from the department’s Accident Investigation Unit also responded to the scene and took over the crash investigation,” Flynn said.

Velasquez, whose residency information is not listed in jail records, was taken to a local hospital. After he was released, however, he was arrested on the two counts of homicide by vehicle in the 1st degree, DUI, possession of methamphetamine, driving without a valid license and reckless driving.

The names of the victims have not yet been released by police.

Anyone who has information about the crash is asked to call detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. They can also visit www.stopcrimeATL.com. There is a cash reward offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.

Tipsters are asked to reference case No. 21-009899.

Liberal AJC poll: 62% of Georgia Voters Say Immigration is Extremely or Very Important in November Election

According to the newspaper, the liberal AJC’s poll of 902 likely voters was conducted by the University of Georgia’s School of Policy and International Affairs July 14-22 and has a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points. It is featured on today’s front page.

Related: By our count is has been 1361 days since then- candidate, now Gov. Brian Kemp pledged to create a public registry of “criminal illegals,” enforce state “sanctuary city” laws and to send “Track and Deport” legislation to the state legislature.

Related: State law (OCGA 42-4-14) requires all jailers to use reasonable effort to check immigration status of prisoners and to report illegal aliens to DHS. That law is widely ignored by Georgia’s powerful county sheriffs. Two metro-Atlanta Democrat sheriffs publicly boast that they defy the law. Georgia media (examples here and here) – including the liberal AJC – refuse to publicize the existence of the law or the related admissions of defiance by the sheriffs.

Mexico City Residents Want Americans To Leave

Mexico City residents aren’t happy with Americans that have moved to their city and made things more expensive, demanding they leave, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

A growing number of Americans from areas like Silicon Valley and Brooklyn, New York, have flocked to the city, taking advantage of its beauty and cheap rent, according to the LA Times. The issue is expected to worsen with rising inflation as more Americans look for affordable alternatives. (RELATED: Mexico Nabs Infamous Drug Lord Wanted For Decades For Killing DEA Agent)

“We’re the only brown people. We’re the only people speaking Spanish except the waiters,” writer and university professor Fernando Bustos Gorozpe, 28, said, according to the LA Times.

“We’re just seeing Americans flooding in. It’s people who maybe have their own business, or maybe they’re thinking of starting some consulting or freelance work. They don’t even know how long they’re going to stay. They’re completely picking up their entire lives and just moving down here,” The head of Welcome Home Mexico, an organization that helps with relocation, Alexandra Demou said, adding that she gets 50 calls a week from people considering making the move, the LA Times reported.

A local business owner who moved to Mexico City, Dan Defossey, recognized that “Mexico is not cheap for Mexicans.”

“Americans can come here, and they can afford everything and live like kings and queens,” Defossey told the LA Times.

There are 1,600,000 U.S. citizens living in Mexico, a leading destination for U.S. travelers going abroad, according to the State Department. Americans are permitted to stay in Mexico for up to six months, according to the Mexican government.

“I came for a new set of possibilities for how I experience my life and what I get to create in it. I feel like this city has everything I need to build a life of creativity, connection, adventure and stability,” Sarah Lupton, 35, who’s from North Carolina said, according to the LA Times.

A local group recently hosted a “places we have lost to gentrification, touristification and forced displacement” walking tour of Mexico City, according to the LA Times.

“Our homes now house digital nomads,” a flier for the event read, according to the LA Times.

Posters reading “New to the city? Working remotely? You’re a f—ing plague and the locals f—ing hate you. Leave.” were also recently posted around the city, the LA Times reported. Read the rest here.

Mr. Travis,

While I can well understand Georgia sheriff’s wanting to avoid complicating their lives, they do have a duty to protect their citizens. It seems to me the best way to deal with criminal aliens is to remove them from America, once they have paid their debt to our society. This duty begins with the booking process at our county jails. This is the first opportunity to identify who are foreign nationals.

Under existing Georgia law OC GA 42-4-14 Sheriff’s are required to seek out the immigration status of those they book. Certainly the federal government (ICE) would assist in this determination. Of course the contact with ICE begins with the sheriff.

My understanding is that some, if not many of our Georgia sheriff’s are ignoring this law, thus accommodating deportable criminal aliens.

I would think the American media/press would be investigating this lack of concern by our elected law enforcement officials. Americans should be afforded all legal protections.

You might try taking a look at : NCFIRE.info

After you take a look ask yourself if this crime problem with illegals is isolated to just North Carolina. Might also inquire about how NCFIRE can assemble this information, and we can’t. Heck the sheriff should be publishing their own list!

Don’t we want to rid our state of these people?

Hi Bob,

Sheriffs are pretty powerful people in our state. Some clearly think it makes their communities safer to ignore this law rather than enforce it. If someone can convince a judge to order them to follow the law, we’ll do that story.

However, without current examples of harm caused against their citizens by this lack of action, it’s difficult for me to justify a story.

I’ve asked for recent examples from critics of the Gwinnett sheriff and received none.

It’s not that clear cut, at least not in the area I’m covering.

The sheriff here in Gwinnett tells me he’s making the community safer because the immigrant community — illegal or not — now feels more comfortable providing evidence about gangs, drug dealing, etc.

He has made a bunch of arrests in that arena. They’re not all here illegally.

There were predictions after he took over that people here would die because of that decision to ignore the reporting law. I’ve been keeping my ears open for that type of consequence but haven’t heard anything.

So it’s hard to say who’s right.

Re: Demand for Retraction and Apology

Dear Mr. Chapman, Jr.:

I write on behalf of my client, the Dustin Inman Society (DIS), to demand an immediate retraction and apology for the defamatory statements published in your October 7, 2024, article titled “Democrats in this Georgia district are backing a write-in candidate” by Tia Mitchell.

Through use of internet links, the AJC article wrongfully characterizes the Dustin Inman Society as a “Marietta-based anti-immigration hate group.” This characterization is false, defamatory, and published with actual malice. The Dustin Inman Society pushes for secure borders, is not “anti-immigration” and its proprietors do not hate anyone. Rather, DIS advocates for enforcement of U.S. immigration laws and actively opposes unlawful immigration. This distinction is crucial and well-known to staff at your publication.

I paste the offending paragraph from the AJC story:

“A search of activity under her birth name, Karen Sacandy, which Stamper legally changed in 2019, showed that she previously was aligned with a Marietta-based anti-immigration hate group. The group’s website often linked to Sacandy’s activities, like a letter seeking information about the state’s Immigration Enforcement Review Board and a copy of a letter to the editor supporting legislation to prevent immigrants claiming asylum from obtaining driver’s licenses.”

We note the AJC informs readers that the Dustin Inman Society “often” linked to Karen Sacandy/Kate Stamper activities — but produces only two occasions.

Your story, for which DIS founder and president D.A. King was not contacted, informs readers that Sacandy/Stamper “was aligned” with the Dustin Inman Society. We note that polls show that a majority of Americans oppose the federal offense of illegal immigration. Since the letter posted on the DIS site was a published missive to the editor at the Cherokee Tribune, we must ask: does this make that newspaper a “Cherokee County-based anti-immigration hate group”?

Your characterization demonstrates a reckless and vindictive disregard for the truth, rising to the level of actual malice as defined in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan. Actual malice in defamation law refers to publication of a statement with knowledge that it is false or with reckless disregard of whether it is false or not. Your repeated mischaracterization of the Dustin Inman Society, despite having been corrected on numerous occasions, clearly meets this standard.

The Dustin Inman Society’s position on immigration is clear and public:

1. It supports sustainable levels of legal immigration through established channels.

2. It opposes unlawful immigration due to various societal concerns, including: – Strain on public resources and services
– Potential and real public safety issues
– Economic impacts on low-wage American workers and America’s poor

– Challenges to the rule of law

3. The Dustin Inman Society defends legal immigrants when media attempt to blur the difference between them and illegal aliens.

Moreover, the Dustin Inman Society’s board includes lawful immigrants who have navigated the proper channels for authorized immigration. This fact alone should dispel any notion that the organization is “anti-immigration.” As he has informed you multiple times over much of the last two decades, D.A. King’s sister is a real, legal immigrant.

While we acknowledge that the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated the Dustin Inman Society as an “anti-immigrant hate group that denigrates all immigrants,” your article presents the “anti-immigration hate group” characterization as the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s independent assessment and statement of fact.

This smear is not only demonstrably false and ignores Mr. King’s many communications to you advising you of the truth, but also demonstrates an exceedingly unprofessional failure to fact-check and verify information before publication.

We demand that the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

1. Immediately publicly retract the defaming statement in the October 7, 2024, article.

2. Publish a prominent apology, equal in visibility and placement to the original defamatory article.

3. Cease and desist from further defamatory characterizations of the Dustin Inman Society.

Failure to comply with these demands may result in further legal action. We expect your prompt attention to this matter and await your timely response.
